Philanthropic Mission
.
Heartbeat is the University of Michigan's only philanthropic a cappella group!

What does this mean?
Each school year, we choose a charity for which to raise money. We donate all of the proceeds from our various gigs and concerts throughout the school year to our chosen organization at the end of the year.
This year's charity:
For the 2024-2025 school year, we will be supporting March for Our Lives!
Born out of a tragic school shooting, March For Our Lives is a courageous youth-led movement dedicated to promoting civic engagement, education, and direct action by youth to eliminate the epidemic of gun violence.

We are passionate about giving back to the community!
We love cultivating community relationships by creating partnerships with groups on campus, singing at University departmental events, volunteering at the University Hospital, and performing free of charge at the corners of our community-like hospices, memorials, and nursing homes. We perform for donations by request and have sung on and off-campus at private and public events.
To extend our philanthropy directly to the Ann Arbor community, we used to perform monthly at the Senior Center. Additionally, we make a big effort to work with other student organizations on campus and University Initiatives such as Dance Marathon, SAPAC, DoRAK, Blood Battle, and Circle K.
Finally, Heartbeat is affiliated with MACC (Michigan A Cappella Council). Each year, Heartbeat joins the fifteen Michigan a cappella groups to perform in two MACC concerts: MACCFest and Charity Fest. MACCFest enables each group to show off its unique talents, and Charity Fest allows the a cappella community to come together to support a good cause.
